We wish to advise you that with effect from January 1, 2009 all ships three hundred (300) gross tons and above on international voyages are required to be fitted with a system to automatically transmit the following long-range identification and tracking information:
a. the identity of the ship:
b. the position of the ship (latitude and longitude); and
c. the date and time of the position provided.
This mandatory requirements is consequent to the International Convention for the Safety of I.if At Sea. 1974, as amended in Chapter V. Regulation 19-1. As such, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ) has authorized two testing Application Service Providers (ASP) to conduct Conformance Tests on all Jamaican Flagged ships that are so affected. These testing ASP's are:
